History:

Newt was placed at the Sanctuary after a young couple decided that they could no longer care for him. Often times people decide that they want to purchase an exotic cat as a pet. Many decide on getting a bobcat, as they think that it may be easier to care for than say a lion or a tiger. Well, yes a bobcat is much smaller than a lion or a tiger, they eat less food and don't require as much space, so they would cost less money. However, a bobcat is nothing like your domestic house cat. Bobcats can grow to be about two to three times as large as the domestic house cat. Their long, sharp claws are perfect for destroying all of your furniture. You certainly wouldn't want to be bitten by those large teeth and they may wind up marking everything in your house. This is never a good situation for anyone involved: the person or the animal. The best place for a bobcat is in the wild. Unfortunately, ex-pets like Newt are not able to be released into the wild for they would not survive. For this reason, places like IEAS must exist. Otherwise, these unwanted animals would have no place to go. Newt is one of the few who was able to find a new, permanent place that he could call home.

Now Newt likes to spend most of his days lounging on his high, corner perch. You will usually get a good look at him as you pass by on your tour at IEAS. In the evenings, he likes to come down and explore his habitat and observe all of his surroundings. He especially likes to flirt with his two female bobcat neighbors, Baby and Cookie.
