Zippy

Zippy

Birthdate: May 20, 2001
Arrived: Oct 9, 2008
Gender: Female

Zippy was rescued from what was called a make-shift home zoo in Crystal Beach, TX. This 400-pound tiger was abandoned as Hurricane Ike tore through the area. She was left in a locked enclosure with nowhere to go and no choice but to attempt to ride out the storm. Amazingly, this tiger survived the devastating storm. A local veterinarian, Dr. Sarah Matek and Carl Griffith, the former Jefferson County Sherriff, went out to investigate the situation. "There were only two choices. It was either put it to sleep or they were going to have to kill it." Griffith and Matek, along with Texas Game Wardens decided to tranquilize the animal so that they could help her. IEAS heard of the Zippy's situation and knew we had to help. This amazing animal had bee left abandoned in the direct path of a massive, destructive storm. One can only imagine how she managed to survive. With the assistance of Two-time NASCAR champion, Tony Stewart, and The Tony Stewart Foundation, IEAS gave Zippy a permanent home. Zippy now enjoys her new home that is equipped with a large pool with a waterfall, perches and trees for shade. She also has numerous enrichment items to play with. She is receiving the best care possible, all of which she deserved from the beginning. Zippy was named by the Tony Stewart Foundation in honor of Tony's crew chief, Greg Zipadelli.
