Round Two

Date: 01-13-2012

It was time for the second round of Christmas trees. Not only did some of the cats get to enjoy them, but it was also the bears turn. Isabella was one of the first to receive a tree and she didn’t disappoint. She had her pick between two trees since John was sleeping in his house. She first attacked the closest tree, then once she saw the other tree, she went and pounced on it. After a good work out, she went and cooled off in her pool.  That’s right, it’s never too cold for these tigers to enjoy their pool.

Next up was Shauna. Shauna is a very playful lioness at heart, so she had tons of fun with her trees. The first few minutes were spent rubbing all over the tree in a corner. Then she moved the tree out in the open and rolled around with it. She never tires of her new enrichment items either. She is still enjoying it as much today as when she received it two days ago.

Last, but surely not least, were the bears. With the bears, we do something a little different. We cut the branches off of them so that they can use it for bedding. The older bears know exactly what to do. Dakar and Meyote were the first to pull these branches into their den for some extra cushion and warmth. The younger bears, Scooter and Scamp, decided to play with them first. They were rolling in the branches and throwing them in the air having a blast. By late afternoon, they had begun pulling the branches into their den.

So it seems that no matter how they are used, the Christmas tree enrichment this year was a success. Thank you again to all those who donated these trees for the wonderful animals of IEAS.
