Scoundrel is in His New Home

Date: 01-31-2012

Scoundrel is now adjusting to his new home at Bear Orphanage. Scoundrel was moved Thursday morning to one of the holding areas of Bear Orphanage. He will be sharing a beautiful, natural five acre habitat with seven other bears, Dakar, Meyote, Lucky, Lucy, Pixie, Rascal and Rowdy. Since his move, he has been spending most of the time tucked away in his cave. However, he has come out a few times to take a dip in his water trough and grab a bite to eat.

He really seems more comfortable in his new surroundings. So far, the presence of his new neighbors, Greta, Scooter and Scamp, has not caused him any worry. Scoundrel will remain in the holding area for the rest of the winter. This will allow him to become completely comfortable with his surroundings and new roommates. Winter is the best time to introduce bears at Bear Orphanage as all the bears are denning up and not moving around too much. Even with the unseasonably warm winter, the bears are still pretty slow and not eating as much as they would during the warmer months. So in a few months, Scoundrel will be enjoying the trees and meadows to explore. He will have a sense of what it’s like to be a bear in the wild again.

We will keep you posted on Scoundrel's progress.
