Wakey, Wakey

Slowly but surely the Grizzly bears are waking up from their long winter sleep. The bears started slowing down back in October, but it wasn’t until November that they made themselves comfortable in their den. That is where they have been the past three to four months. They only made a few appearances since then, and even then it was only one or two of them at a time. Wendy was the one that poked her head out most often. Guess she needed some time away from the boys. This past week, all four have been out on three occasions. We know they are coming around because on these visits, they have been running around playing and eating some grass.
Every year, when the Grizzly bears come out of their winter nap, we start off their diet with grass, greens and dandelions. This is what they would eat in the wild to basically flush their system out and settle their stomach. Then, slowly we would get them on their normal diet. This year, when we first gave them the grass, they were the same old grizzlies. They rolled around in and played with their food before eating it…as they always do. When they came out this past week, they showed us that they had a lot of energy stored up. They were chasing each other around, rough housing only to take a few breaks to snack.
