NEW INTERNS ARRIVE

Rachael AndersonRachael Anderson

Rachael Anderson was an intern at IEAS during the last session and she decided to stay with us for another three months. She is from Lawton, OK. She graduated from Cameron University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in zoology. Before arriving at IEAS, she completed an internship with Fossil Rim Wildlife Center where she got to work with a wide variety of animals that included wolves, birds, goats, tortoises and an ocelot. When Rachael leaves us, she will continue her career in the field of animal care and conservation at the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, TX. Congratulations Rachael!

Chris MeffleyChris Meffley

Chris Meffley is from Defiance, Ohio. He graduated in May from Miami University (Ohio) with a B.S. in Zoology and Environmental Science. Last summer, he was an animal care intern at the Indianapolis Zoo in their Forest Biome where he worked with a variety of species including three Amur Tigers. Chris' career goals include working with exotic felines or wolves in a zoo or sanctuary while participating in efforts for conservation and education.

Michael RobinsonMichael Robinson

Michael Robinson is from London, England. He graduated in May from Cornell University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.S. in Animal Sciences. He is currently taking the next two years to travel around the world, working with endangered species, to not only contribute to animal conservation, but to educate the public about the detrimental effects of modern day society. Mike's future aspirations are to go to vet school and use my newly acquired medical skills to aid endangered animals and the overall conservation effort.

Lindsey AudunsonLindsey Audunson

Lindsey Audunson is from Syracuse, New York. She graduated in May 2007 from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. Throughout her college career, she gained a range of animal experience while working at the local aquarium and humane society. She spent time at the University farm working with Holstein dairy cattle. Lindsey also did an internship at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, NY. After this internship, she hopes to find a job at a zoo, sanctuary, or rehabilitation center where she can focus on enrichment, habitat enhancement, and conservation.

Kyla GottgetreuKyla Gottgetreu

Kyla Gottgetreu, is from Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated from Colorado State University in May of 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. She has worked as an intern at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in the vet clinic, as well as with the cougars, snow leopards, giraffes and elephants. After this internship, Kyla hopes to further conservation and education efforts by getting a job at Denver Zoo as a carnivore keeper.

Samson Samson

Born October 13, 1990

Samson will be 17 years old this month. Samson arrived at IEAS in 1993 when his owners decided that they were not able to spend the time required to properly care for him. Visit Samson's page if you would like to see a video of Samson roaring at the Sanctuary!

Nayakahn Nayakahn

Male Bengal Tiger
Born October 15, 1993

Nayakahn will be 14 years old on October 15th. Naya has several toys in his habitat and he enjoys playing with all of them. One of Naya's favorite toys is his tire. Most of the cats will pick their tires up in their mouth to carry it around. Naya actually likes to slip his head through his tire and carry it around his neck. This is quite a sight to see!

Tony, Tigre and Boom are going to turn 18 years old on October 20th! These three siblings are always a favorite of our tour guests. While Tigre and Boom may be in a house snuggling together, Tony is usually out on his perch under the mister and the guests can get an up close view of him. You can find more pictures and videos of these amazing cats on our website.

Pecos Pecos

Male Bobcat
Born October 30, 1996

Pecos will be 11 years old on October 30th. Pecos likes to spend the hot summer days in the shade of his house with his mister blowing on him. In the evenings, he likes to come out and explore, and then rest on his high perch. You can see more pictures of Pecos on our website.
