IEAS: A GLIMPSE AT 2008
A very special construction project has begun here at the Sanctuary. Bear Orphanage is in the works and will consist of two five-acre habitats for the bears of IEAS. One five-acre habitat will be for black bears and another five-acre habitat for grizzly bears. Each habitat will be able to house up to nine bears. They will feature forest and meadow areas along with ponds and some den areas, which are all part of the natural ecosystem for the bear. We hope to have these naturalistic habitats completed by Spring 2008. Once completed, you will be able to sign up for a tour and see the bears in their new home. There will be observation decks where you can view and photograph the bears in a natural setting. As always, help is needed and greatly appreciated! Any donation, large or small, will benefit these amazing animals! Click on the links below to see videos of the construction of Bear Orphanage.
New Internships Available at IEAS!
Starting this year, IEAS will be offering two new internship positions. Six month Animal Care Internships and three month Education Internships are now open at IEAS. Please visit the Intern Program page to find more details on these exciting opportunities. You can also visit the AZA Job Posting page to find descriptions of the positions.
Here at IEAS, the Educational Program is designed to instill respect for nature and to raise awareness of the value and need to preserve these magnificent beings for generations to come. What better way to insure the highest quality of life for captive animals everywhere than to educate the future professionals of the animal welfare field. Our unique Education Program is made possible only with the support of caring individuals like you. Make a donation today to help support our Intern Program. Visit our website to learn more about how to Sponsor an Intern.
FEBRUARY BIRTHDAYS
Isabella
Female Bengal Tiger Born February 14, 1993 Rescued September 1998
Isabella will be 15 years old this month! Isabella is pictured here with her favorite toy...a giant pickle. Last year IEAS raised enough money to buy new pickles for all of the cats that didn't have one but would really enjoy one. Isabella was so excited to get a new pickle! She took it straight to the pool to play with it. You can see a video of Isabella that day here.
Bill
Male Black Bear Born February 15, 1993 Rescued October 7, 2007
Bill will also turn 15 years old this month! In April 2006, Bill was confiscated in Gonzales County Texas under the Texas Dangerous Wild Animal Law. He had been living in a 4'x9' transport cage for most his life. He was sent to the North Texas Humane Society who cared for him for more than a year. When a permanent home could not be found for Bill, IEAS made the decision to rescue him. He arrived at his new home at IEAS in October of 2007.
