Kroger Plus Cards

ATTENTION! All Kroger Plus cards will need to be updated as of April 30th 2009. Once updated, they will then be good for another year.

By using your Kroger Plus card you can enroll in their Neighbor to Neighbor program that donates 1% of your purchases to IEAS. Once per year you can go to http://www.krogerneighbortoneighbor.com/, print the page with the instructions and barcode which you take to your local Kroger and have it scanned and added to your Kroger Plus card account. Every purchase you make from May 1, 2008 through April 30, 2009 will help the Sanctuary.

Kroger donates 1% of each purchase from its' Texas and Louisiana customers to IEAS if their card is linked to the Sanctuary. To minimize confusion and make it easier on our valued supporters, below is the bar code that you can print from this page and take it to Kroger next time you go shopping. Show this to the cashier and let her scan it. That is it!!! You will be making a contribution each time you shop without having to show this again until next year.

By adding IEAS to your account at these stores, you help bring in some of the much needed funds we require each month to help feed our animal friends. Last year, 2008, IEAS noticed a reduction in the quarterly amounts that we received from Kroger. We think it was due to the change in their program. The bar-coded cards that our supporters carried for years were no longer valid leading many of our Kroger shoppers to think that the program was no longer available. This is not the case. The instructions for linking IEAS to your Kroger cards was difficult to understand and not well understood by Kroger employees resulting in many former supporters unable to follow through with the new program.

Tom Thumb and Randalls Good Neighbor Program

Tom ThumbIf you are a Tom Thumb and/or Randalls' customer living and shopping in Texas and are not already linked to IEAS with your Tom Thumb or Randalls card, sign up for their Good Neighbor Program by using this number # 2074. This is another program that will send IEAS 1% of your purchase dollars.

New Interns Arrive at IEAS

New InternsSix new interns have arrived at IEAS for our Spring 2009 session. IEAS provides a unique opportunity for young individuals hoping to enter into the animal welfare field. Most zoos across the United States do not offer internships working with large exotic felines or with bears. Here, interns work daily with qualified keepers to care for the 58 exotic felines and the nine resident bears who call IEAS home. All of the interns that come to IEAS leave with fundamental knowledge and experience that complements their college education and takes them to the next level in their animal welfare career pursuits. Over 90% of our interns have moved on to other reputable facilities to provide quality care for animals. We have former interns pursuing their animal careers at a number of major zoos across the United States such as St. Louis Zoo, Bronx Zoo, San Antonio Zoo, Fort Worth Zoo, Dallas Zoo, Denver Zoo, Cameron Park Zoo and Columbus Zoo. We also have interns working for animal welfare organizations such as governmental, state, and environmental agencies.

You can help to support our unique Education Program by Sponsoring an Intern! Learn more about this amazing opportunity here, or you can call our office at 940-433-5091.

April Birthdays

Kashmere Kashmere & Laxmi

Female Bengal Tigers
Born: April 1, 1994
Rescued: April 4, 1994

Kashmere and Laxmi will be 15 years old this month. Until now, Kashmere and Laxmi have been sharing a house to sleep in. They love to snuggle up together and groom each other while laying in their house. Even still, we wanted to build them another house in case they ever wanted to be on their own.

LaxmiTwo IEAS volunteers, Cathy Desell and Jennifer Bath donated the money necessary to build this house. Well, the project is complete! Kash and Lax now have two spacious houses to rest in. Although they still always lay together in a house, they have two to choose from now! Thank you Cathy and Jennifer!

Khera Khera

Female Bengal Tiger
Born: April 1, 1994
Rescued: April 4, 1994

Khera will also be 15 years old this month! Khera likes to play games in the morning at breakfast time. She will strategically place her tire in the way of her gate on her house so that the keepers cannot get the gate down in order to feed her. We will usually toss her in some treats on the opposite side of her habitat in order to lock her away from her house using another gate, so that we can safely put her food into her house. We think Khera does this on purpose as a way of getting a little treat before breakfast!

Tricia Tricia

Female Bobcat
Born: April 13, 2008
Rescued: May 12, 2008

Tricia will be one year old this month! Tricia arrived last May with Chrissy, after both of their mothers have been shot. They both moved into their new habitat this past October and are doing very well. Tricia likes to hang out in her favorite tree for most of the day and then comes down to play and explore in the evenings.

Allie Kat Allie Kat & Rasul

Bengal Tigers
Born: April 21, 2005
Rescued: June 20, 2005

Allie Kat and Rasul will be four years old this month! It seems like just yesterday when these two amazing animals arrived at IEAS after being confiscated from someone who was trying to smuggle them into Mexico.

RasulAllie and Rasul now enjoy their life here at the Sanctuary. They love to play in their waterfall, swim in the pool, nap under their perches and roll around in the grass.

Nala Nala

Female Lion
Born: April 30, 1996
Rescued: September 1, 1996

Nala will be 13 years old this month. Nala lives with her friend Kuru, a male lion. Nala and Kuru will be getting a new treat this year. The staff and interns of IEAS hope to build a cave for Nala and Kuru in the near future. It will be a nice, cool place for them to escape the summer heat in. We are excited about this project and can't wait to get started!
