Animals in the Mist

Thank you to all of you who donated for our Animals in the Mist fundraiser! We are so happy to say that we have reached our goal! Now we have two mister pumps that are able to supply a fine mist to keep all of the animals cool during this HOT Texas summer...and for many summers to come! Providing these animals with the absolute highest quality of life is our number one goal. These misters are just one way that we are able to keep the animals comfortable during these times of extreme heat. You have helped tremendously in helping all of the animals of IEAS. The animals thank all of you who contributed!

New Interns Arrive at IEAS

Summer InternsThe new interns have arrived for the Summer of 2009! As many of you know, the IEAS Intern Program provides a unique opportunity for individuals who wish to learn about the care and management of exotic animals. Most zoos across the United States do not offer internships working with large exotic felines or with bears. Here, interns work daily with qualified keepers to care for all of the exotic felines and the resident bears who call IEAS home. You can help support this program by Sponsoring an Intern.

This session we have both college students and graduates who are looking to gain knowledge and experience in the animal world. They are all hard working and motivated individuals who are enjoying spending their summer taking care of these amazing animals!

July Birthdays!

Lucky Lucky

Male American Black Bear
Born July 4, 2008
Rescued November 19, 2008

Lucky was found trying to hibernate under someone's front porch in Alaska. The local police captured him before the Alaska Department of Fish and Game could intervene. Just hours before this bear was set to be euthanized, IEAS received a news flash from the Fish and Game, who was trying to find a home for this cub. IEAS had less than ten hours to get the paperwork and everything else in order to save this bear's life. The bear was flown from Alaska to Texas in November. Lucky is now enjoying his life in a natural, five-acre habitat known as Bear Orphanage. He has made a new friend, Lucy, a female black bear cub. You will usually find Lucky and Lucy playing together or just hanging out napping near one another.

Turbo Turbo

Male Cougar
Born July 14, 1993
Rescued November 1, 1993

Turbo will be 16 years old this month. Most of the cats at IEAS have just a couple of spots in their habitat that they really like to hang out in. Maybe a favorite perch or a cave. But Turbo likes to hang out in just about every part of his habitat. It may just depend on the time of day as to where you might find him. He likes to hide out in both his house and his cave. He likes to nap up on his high perch, on both platforms between his ramps, and down in the grass. This can make it quite difficult to find him sometimes! See if you can find out which spot Turbo is hanging out in on your tour!

Tiger Tiger

Male Bobcat
Born July 20, 1990
Rescued May 1, 1992

Tiger will be 19 years old this month. Tiger lives with another male bobcat, Tassers. During the summer, Tiger and Tassers like to hang out together in their cave. They have a mister that supplies a fine mist in the cave to help keep them cool. In the evenings, they may move to the shade of the trees and bushes in their habitat. Either way, you will usually find them together!

Noel Noel

Male Siberian Tiger
Born July 24, 1995
Rescued December 1, 1995

Noel will be 14 years old this month. Noel is a very patient cat. Each morning he lays and watches as six different cats get fed first thing in the morning. He will just lay there and chuff as the keeper walks by to feed his surrounding neighbors. He knows that his food will be coming soon. During the summer, you will usually find Noel lying on his perch by his mister or cooling off in his pool.

Taz Taz

Male Bobcat
Born July 25, 1993
Rescued September 17, 1997

Taz will be 16 years old this month. Taz is usually one bobcat that you will not see on your tour. Right now, he really likes to spend the hot summer days in his nice, cool cave. He likes to come out and explore in the evenings.
